FC Frederick Announces Coaching Transition for NPSL Team: Colin Viti Named Head Coach
Frederick, Md. — October 2025 — FC Frederick announced today that Colin Viti has been named Head Coach of the club’s National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) team, succeeding Rob Ryerson, who led the program from 2022 to 2025.
Ryerson, a former professional player and long-time leader in Maryland soccer, guided FC Frederick through a pivotal era of growth and player development. Under his leadership, the club advanced to the NPSL Mid-Atlantic semifinals in 2022 and 2024, while producing several standout performances and nurturing college players returning each summer to represent their hometown.
“It’s been an honor to coach at FC Frederick and work with so many talented players,” said Rob Ryerson. “This program provides a special bridge between college and professional soccer, and I’m proud of what we’ve built together. Colin has been a tremendous assistant and is more than ready to take the reins—he’ll bring new energy, creativity, and vision to the group.”
Viti, who has served as FC Frederick’s NPSL Assistant Coach since 2023 and as the club’s Senior Boys Director, also works as an Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Hood College in Frederick, where he helps guide the Blazers in NCAA Division III competition.
A former collegiate player himself, Viti is respected for his tactical acumen, communication skills, and deep understanding of FC Frederick’s developmental model—one that emphasizes technical excellence, accountability, and connection to community.
“This opportunity means a great deal to me,” said Colin Viti. “I’ve been part of FC Frederick for many years and have seen firsthand the quality of players and coaches who represent this club. The NPSL team is the top of our developmental pathway, and my goal is to create an environment that challenges our players to grow while competing at the highest level of the league.”
A Legacy of Development
Since joining the National Premier Soccer League in 2015, FC Frederick has become a key destination for top college and post-college players in the Mid-Atlantic region. More than 400 FC Frederick alumni have gone on to play NCAA soccer, and several—including Phil Breno (Tampa Bay Rowdies), Jackson Eskay (Richmond Kickers), William & JohnA Eskay (St. Louis Ambush), and Alex Lee (Richmond Kickers)—have advanced to the professional ranks.
The team’s finest moment came in 2018, when FC Frederick captured the NPSL Mid-Atlantic Championship and reached the Northeast Regional Semifinals, the highest achievement in the program’s history.
“The NPSL team is an essential part of our player development system,” said Josh Gilmore, FC Frederick’s Director of Pro Programs. “It provides a professional-style experience for current college players and graduates, and it connects every level of our club—from youth to adult. Colin’s leadership ensures that connection remains strong and that the program continues to evolve.”
